User Guidelines

Prohibited Content

The following activity / material isn't allowed on Talkyard sites hosted by us (Debiki AB).

(This page is based on WordPress's User Guidelines from 2021-04-14, https://wordpress.com/support/user-guidelines/, Copyright Automattic, licensed under CC-By-SA 4.0)

Illegal content and conduct.
Not permitted.
Hate speech.
Not permitted.
Twitter has some examples of what isn't okay — scroll down on that page (over at Twitter) and look at the not-okay tweets.
Calls to violence.
We prohibit content that incites, encourages, threatens, or promotes acts of violence against individuals or groups of people. Content that glorifies acts of violence or its perpetrators, is also not allowed.
Tobacco.
Your Talkyard site and your organization must not encourage or promote tobacco smoking, e.g. tobacco cigarettes. (If you're a grocery store, and just a small fraction of what you sell, is tobacco, but you don't encourage people to buy it, then that's permitted.)
Pornography.
We know that there may be different definitions of this, but generally, we define pornography as visual depictions of sexually explicit acts.
Gambling.
Discussing gambling on your site isn't a problem. But you must not operate an online gambling service (including poker) on your Talkyard site. Please also be aware that if your site is primarily designed to link to other gambling sites, we consider this spam, and a breach of the user guidelines.
Posting private information (doxing).
Don't share someone's personal information without their consent. This includes collecting sensitive information such as account passwords and credit card numbers, to name a couple.
Impersonation.
Don't claim to be a person or organization you're not. (Parody and satire are ok though!)
Advertising.
Advertising isn't permitted, for example, don't add Google AdSense to your Talkyard site hosted by us. (Currently there's no easy way to do that anyway.) — You can have ads on your own website or blog of course, but not inside a Talkyard blog comments section on your blog, and not in a Talkyard discussion forum.
Intellectual property infringement.
Talkyard is a discussion platform, rather than a file sharing platform, so we recognize that copyrighted materials are sometimes used in fair use context. We support this and urge copyright holders to take this into consideration before submitting complaints. If you're not sure, the golden rule is to always ask the rights holder for permission before republishing their content.
Hotlinking.
Your Talkyard site shouldn't host files that will only be used on other sites.
Technologically harmful content.
Please don't upload or link to malware, spyware, adware, or other malicious or destructive code.
Spam or machine-generated content.
In general, sites such as those primarily dedicated to drive traffic to other sites, boost SEO, phish, spoof, or promote affiliate marketing aren't allowed. Also, please don't send unwanted or unsolicited promotions or emails about your Talkyard site.

Bear in mind that these are just guidelines — interpretations are solely up to us. These guidelines are not exhaustive and are subject to change.

If you believe a Talkard site hosted by us, Debiki AB, has violated our Terms of Service or any of these policies, please report the site: support+legal@talkyard.io. We aim to promptly review and investigate all complaints that we receive, but if and how we respond will depend on a variety of factors, such as the information available to us and the type of violation. We may also contact the site owner to inform him/her of the complaint.

If we're not in a position to make a determination (for example, whether something is defamatory or not), we defer to the judgment of a court.
